Jan 1898 1st I was over after some straw and Hay after dinner I took the Womens over to Bottolfson we were all to the dance at Gilbert Schager Lou Came down this Eve 2 I paid G. Brinie 1 .00 Bal Due John Weiger and Family was here Lou and Mother went to Church 3 Ed took Lou and Family up home to day very nice day I went up town and Borrowed 75. 00 for 4 mo(nths) Pd. J. Foglesong 49. 00 on Corn and Jacob 20. 00 Bal on Herding 4 Oscar and I went up to Eds. After the Boar Hauled a load of hay after dinner paid Strube 3. 30 Bal on Corn

Jan 5 Made 4 trips after Hay to day 6 Hauling hay to day Jacob came down this A Scurvy Society met at Nelson 7 did not do much of any thing to day Ed was after the cows 8 I went to town this morning 9 Home until noon when Jacob and I drove over to Jem's little Bessie is kind of sick 10 I was after load of Straw after dinner I got the Big crib full and nailed up Tight 11 I took Will and Mule up to Ed to see the Doctor for Mules Eyes

January 17. A little snowy to day. I went up town when I got my chores done. Gave Jenal an offer of £15 for a piece of land. I signed the papers of the Swan Co for the most. 18 Hauled some manure to day trying to snow all day. 19 Hauled two loads of hay weighed the Cattle after dinner average of 196 lbs heavier than when they went in the yard. Foglesony Hauled over 66 Corn to day making in all 358 bu paid him £2.00 Bal on the Corn amounting to £51.00 we started to clean the sheep shed got out 18 loads of manure Mr Nelson stopped in to look at the Cattle I was up to have a little while this evening 22 I started to fix the pump but did not get it to work very good we Hauled out the Bal of the manure to day I saw and mother went to town 23 took the stars down to the Creek to day took out the pump and fixed it some got it
