But the said Terry wishing to purchase of said Massie a negro girl named Sally - the said Massie agrees to dispose of said girl to said Terry at two hundred and fifty dollars. to be paid for in services as an overseer on the terms aforesaid per year but if the times should after the expiration of the present year justify higher wages than is now giv in the opinion of said Massie, than is now given said Terry, the said Massie will increase them to what he may deem reasonable. It is however positively stipulated on the part of said Terry, that said Massie is to be the judge of the fidelity & compliance with directions with which said Terry serves him, and if said Massie should think that there may be a non compliance with directions or want of fidelity towards him on the part of said Terry, he the said Massie reserves to himself (as in first bargain) the privilege of annulling the contract at any moment, and dispressing from his service the said Terry. It is understood and agreed upon between the parties that a legal right or bill of sale is not to be made to said Terry for said girl untill untill the time arrives at which he would have earned what he hereby agrees to give for her. The said Massie will find said Terry the same allowance as to meat &c. as heretofore, and will advance him as much money as may be reasonable for the purchase of leather & absolutely indispensable articles.
